Chezz is a chess app for iOS. We believe a chess app has no business spying on you, so we collect only what the app needs to work, we never sell your data and we never track you across other apps or websites. This page explains exactly what that means.
What we collect
- Account details. When you sign in we store your email address, a username and a display name. You can sign in with a one-time code sent to your email, or with Sign in with Apple. There is no password.
- Profile. Your rating, chosen accent color and, if you add one, a profile photo.
- Gameplay. The moves, results and timestamps of online and correspondence games, so you and your opponent can play, resume and review them.
- Find friends from contacts (optional). If you turn this on, phone numbers from your address book are converted into one-way hashes on the way to our server and matched against other players' hashes. We do not store your contacts' phone numbers, names or any address book content. Your own number, if you add it to be discoverable, is stored only as a hash.
- Notifications (optional). If you allow push notifications, we store a device token so we can tell you when it is your move or a friend challenges you.
- Basic technical data. Standard server logs needed to keep the service running and secure.
Single-player games against the computer and the full Game Review run entirely on your device and need no account or internet connection. The Stockfish chess engine is bundled in the app and runs locally; it does not send your games anywhere.
How we use it
To run your account, match you with friends, deliver your games and notifications, and keep the service working and secure. That is the whole list.
What we never do
- We never sell or rent your data.
- We use no advertising or analytics tracking SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not build advertising profiles about you.
Who we share with
We share data only with the services that make Chezz function:
- Apple, if you choose Sign in with Apple.
- Resend, which delivers your one-time sign-in codes by email.
- Our own server, which stores your account and games.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it. That is it.
Keeping your data, and deleting it
We keep your account and games while your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and its data at any time by emailing us at the address below, and we will remove it.
Security
All traffic between the app and our server is encrypted with HTTPS. Phone numbers used for friend matching are stored only as keyed one-way hashes, never in readable form.
Children
Chezz is rated 4+ and is suitable for all ages, but it is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Your rights
You can access, correct or delete your information. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. To exercise any of them, just email us.
Changes
If we update this policy we will change the date at the top of this page.
